Forex Made Easy : 6 Ways to Trade the Dollar

by James Dicks

This is a low level introduction to the foriegn exchange markets and the way to trade them. He starts out by explaining what the foreign currency exchange market is. He talks about the 6 currency pairs and explains why that simplicity is in the traders favor. He gives plenty of reasons why to trade in this market early on so as to get the reader involved. He does a very good job of giving enough examples to clarify his point for a novice. That is the most impressive part of his narrative. Jamie does an excellent job of slowly getting the reader into the material. He doesn't talk down to the reader but he does speak to them in an easy and natural language. All the other books on the market are very technical. The book does move to technical analsis early. By the 3rd chapter the author is going into some base level detail of how to use technial analysis to their advantage. He does so in as non-mathematical a way as possible and quickly ties its use back to the monetary benefits. As mentioned, he introduces the topic in the 3rd chapter then returns to it in the 8th because of its importance to the success of the trader. The author takes the novice through such basic things as how to set up your work station for effective electronic trading. This is the competitive advantage of the book. There is even a brief review/introduction of basic trading skills no matter the product. In addition the author goes through most of the economic indicators that a forex trader would care about. He only gets into the detail that would affect a regular trader.

"This book was my first introduction to forex trading. I needed something I could wrap my mind around, that would give me the basic information, without going overboard. This book did just that. Written by an actual trader, it proved useful to me to understand the terminology, how to get started, as well as what kind of mindset I will need to have in order to succeed. From my experiences in trading stocks and futures I learned a long time ago not to look for a holy grail. Just give me good solid information on what it is I am dealing with and I can handle the rest. This is what this book did for me! And the great part about it I didn't have to read for days on end, the book was brief enough for me to gain some fundamentals. I definitely recommend it to anyone new to Forex trading."

Trading to Win: The Psychology of Mastering the Markets

by Ari Kiev

Buy low, sell high. Sounds simple? Hardly. As most traders will tell you, finding the right entry and exit points in a market is too often a stressful and even gut-wrenching experience. Ari Kiev, author of Trading to Win, wants to change all that. Kiev spent five years with a group of professional traders at SAC Capital Management, a $500 million hedge fund, studying the psychological and emotional aspects of what makes for a successful trader. Kiev found that what hinders many traders is ego, fear, emotion, and "false beliefs about yourself and the markets." Gaining mastery as a trader means seeing "the market as it is, not as a reference point for your own existence." Kiev advocates a disciplined, Zen-like approach to the markets that begins with articulating a specific goal then committing oneself to attaining that goal in the most objective way possible, overcoming the emotional baggage that too often leads to poor decision-making. Trading to Win is for professional and amateur traders of every stripe who are looking for insight into their own behavior and approach to the markets. --Harry C. Edwards.

The Disciplined Trader: Developing Winning Attitudes

In a comprehensive and logical manner, Mark Douglas shows you how to examine and limit your trading behavior -- how to develop the mental discipline possessed by the small minority of winners who make money consistently. Mark Douglas is President of Trading Behavior Dynamics, Inc. A successful commodities trader himself, Mark has drawn on his own experiences - as well as observations of countless other traders in his consulting business to identify and develop methods for overcoming counterproductive trading behaviors.
